Dixieline Lumber History

Serving San Diego for Over 100 Years

A Reputation Built on Ethics, Professionalism and Customer Service

The origin of Dixieline Lumber Company began in 1913 when the Cowling Family of San Diego founded Dixie Lumber & Supply Co. Built on the philosophy that customer service is the key to success, Dixie Lumber quickly established itself as the premier supplier of lumber and building materials in Southern California. In 1957, a merger with Airline Lumber Company brought these two fine organizations together and formed Dixieline.

Forty-six years later Dixieline Lumber Company was purchased by Lanoga Corporation and became part of one of the nation’s largest professional building materials dealer. Today Dixieline is owned by Builders First Source. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Builders First Source currently operates more than 430 facilities encompassing lumber and building product distribution, component manufacturing and hardline sales in 40 states with more than 10,000 employees. Dixieline Lumber & Home Centers has grown from humble beginnings and continues to provide the highest standard of customer service. With over 1,000 employees, Dixieline is ready to meet the needs of homeowners, contractors and builders in Southern California.

Dixieline History is San Diego History

Take a walk back in time as we travel through San Diego History. In 1913 the North Park Lumber Company was created just outside of Downtown San Diego. Fresh lumber was brought in from the Great Northwest on Clipper Ships as San Diego was becoming a major metropolis. Once the Panama Canal was opened in 1914, San Diego decided to host the California Panama Exposition to promote San Diego as a major port. This sparked one of the biggest local building booms San Diego has ever seen.
